Patient Care

Rady Children's Comprehensive Kidney Care Center  treats children with kidney disease from birth to young adulthood (up to 21 years of age). We offer an all-encompassing level of care along the age continuum, from prenatal counseling and initial diagnosis, to dialysis, renal transplant and eventual transition to adult Nephrology services. Our program has consistently been ranked among the top 25 Pediatric Nephrology programs in the nation and our physicians represent a wide background in terms of experience, awards, academic involvement and research interests.

Inpatient services include acute hemodialysis, acute peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and kidney transplant. Outpatient services include General Nephrology Clinic, Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic, Hypertension/Obesity Clinic, Kidney Transplant Clinic and Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic. In addition, our program has a freestanding Pediatric Hemodialysis Unit and Infusion Center, both of which are in close proximity to Nephrology clinic.  Joint specialty clinics include Stone Clinic (Urology and Nephrology teams) and Lupus Clinic  (Rheumatology and Nephrology teams).  The joint specialty clinics allow for patients to be seen by two specialists in one clinic visit.

The emphasis at the Comprehensive Kidney Care Center at Rady Children's is individualized care to meet the needs of each patient.  Each child with advanced chronic kidney disease in the Nephrology program at Rady's is provided multi-disciplinary care.  The multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists and child life specialists.
