The fellowship is divided into blocks: clinic coverage, inpatient and research. The proportion of weeks of clinical service and research varies by year of training.
The fellow staffs the medical clinic at The Chadwick Center with an attending physician. This clinic is open M-F during regular business hours. During these hours if there is an acute sexual assault the fellow will participate in evidence collection and forensic examination.
When on inpatient call the fellow will complete inpatient consults at Rady Children’s Hospital. Fellow’s also provide inpatient consultation at the UCSD Burn unit. Fellows are not required to go into the hospital overnight. Fellows take night call approximately once per week. All consults and telephone calls are staffed with attending physicians.
Fellows are instructed in the scientific and ethical bases of clinical research, study design, methodology, data collection and analysis. Some fellows are more research oriented and prefer to do clinical research projects, while others are more inclined to pursue policy review, advocacy or other scholarly activity. We can accommodate the type of activity that most suit the fellow.
