Basic and Translational Research
Bode Lab
The Bode lab is dedicated to developing a deep mechanistic understanding of HMO structure-activity relationships with the goal to answer the following fundamental questions:
- How are HMOs synthesized in the lactating mammary gland? What maternal fixed and modifiable factors determine the variation in HMO secretion?
- How do HMOs contribute to immediate and long-term infant health and development? Are HMOs also beneficial for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
- How can we learn from the many benefits of HMOs in the maternal-infant space and apply the knowledge to develop novel therapeutics for people of all ages?

Feldstein Lab
The Feldstein lab investigates biochemical pathways of cell death and inflammation triggered by metabolic stress, a process underlying a cluster of diseases that represent a global health burden including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Sivagnanam Lab
The Sivagnanam lab aims to understand the pathophysiology of pediatric intestinal diseases, with particular interest in congenital tufting enteropathy and pediatric inflammatory bowel disease. Our team uses patient-based, murine and organoid models to uncover the genetic underpinnings and epithelial biology of mucosal diseases. Through novel techniques, technology, and collaborations, we are uniquely poised to make new discoveries and answer important clinically-relevant questions.
