The Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego/Rady Children's Hospital San Diego prepares its fellows for academic careers in pediatric neuro-oncology. The training consists of in-depth Inpatient and Outpatient Pediatric Neuro-Oncology clinical experience as well as rotations in Neurosurgery, Neuropathology, Radiation Oncology, and Neuroradiology. The Neuro-Oncology Fellow will also engage in a clinical research project during the training.
The fellow will play a major role in the assessment and ongoing management of those patients referred for second opinion consultation for the state of the art Rady Children's Proton Therapy Program at Scripps Health. One month will be spent in the Adult Neuro-Oncology Program at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center, where clinical experiences and combined Pediatric-Adult Neuro-Oncology clinical conferences will help prepare the trainee for continuity of care into adulthood. The fellow will attend weekly multidisciplinary clinical rounds, tumor boards, and translational research conferences with faculty members at the Moores Cancer Center and Sanford Burnham Institute. The fellow will be required to present cases at the multidisciplinary Molecular Nero-Oncology Tumor Board in conjunction within the RaAdy Children's Institute of Genomics Medicines.
Rady Children's Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in San Diego and is the largest free-standing children's hospital in California. Approximately 80 children and young adults are diagnosed with brain tumors yearly in San Diego, and more than 600 children are actively followed in our Neuro-Oncology clinic. Rady Children's Hospital has a diverse array of clinical trials in Neuro-Oncology as a member of the Children's Oncology Group, Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium , Beat Childhood Cancer Consortium, and an affiliate member of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Candidates should have or should be completing a fellowship in either Pediatric Hematology-Oncology or Child Neurology the year of the application. Rolling applications beginning July the year prior to matriculation will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
