Dr. Paul Grossfeld, P.I. has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences including most recently the Weinstein Meeting on Cardiovascular Development (Tucson, May 2013) and the prestigious 7^th  Takao International Symposium on Etiology and Morphogenesis of Congenital Heart Disease (Tokyo). 

Research Interests:

Dr. Grossfeld earned his Bachelor's degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine where he also did graduate work in molecular biology on yeast mitochondrial genetics, as well as in the laboratory of Nobel Laureates Drs. Michael Brown and Joseph Goldstein.  He completed his general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology training at the University of California, San Diego, and did his postdoctoral fellowship research training in the laboratory of Dr. Ken Chien at UCSD.    He subsequently joined the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at UCSD in 1999.  In addition to his genetics research, he served as the site principle investigator of an NIH-funded clinical trial for patients with Marfan syndrome, was the director of the Pediatric Cardiology fellowship training program (2009-2021) served as the medical leader of an annual cardiac surgical mission to the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia (2006-2015), and continues to serve as the cardiology consultant for the United States Olympic Volleyball Men’s and Women’s teams.  He sees pediatric and young adult patients with congenital heart disease at Rady Children’s Hospital, with an emphasis on patients with genetic syndromes, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
