Kristen Barbour, MD
Dr. Barbour received her medical degree with honors in research from Weill Cornell Medical College where she stayed to complete residency in child neurology. During her time at Cornell, she was a member of the Pediatric Minority Housestaff Council and secretary of the Pediatric Diversity Committee, where she helped with recruiting people from diverse backgrounds to the medical field. Her research interests involve developing automated tools to create large clinical datasets for studying rare diseases. For example, she used natural language processing to create cohorts of individuals with rare neurologic diseases and estimate their disease incidence levels. Her current research involves working with rare disease organizations for STXBP1, SLC6A1, SYNGAP, and PURA syndrome to study the off-label use of medications for neurogenetic conditions. Kristen is currently a fellow in medical genetics at the University of California, San Diego. In her spare time, she enjoys running on the beach, planning time outdoors with her family, and reading fiction from amazon's top 20 list.
