Research

Gabriel Haddad, MD

Dr. Haddad studies the role of ion channels in nerve cells in a low O2 environment. He is also interested in the genetics of susceptibility or tolerance to low or high O2 and the role of gene expression in excitable tissues. He also studies obstructive sleep apnea and the role of hypoxia and hypercapnia on growth and development.

Kathryn Akong, MD, PhD

Dr. Akong completed fellowship training in June, 2011, and joined the faculty as Assistant Professor. She is the site PI at Rady Children's Hospital for the Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutics Development Network . She collaborates closely with Dr. Victor Nizet (Pharmacology and Drug Discovery) to investigate novel modalities to treat patients with cystic fibrosis.

Kelan Tantisira, MD

Dr. Tantisira investigates asthma pharmacogenomics, microRNA, and epidemiology. He leads the division’s study of post-acute SARS-COV-2.

Daniel Lesser, MD

Dr. Lesser is involved in clinical research investigating the role of sleep disordered breathing in metabolic disease.

Elizabeth Duong, MD

Dr. Duong uses single-cell analysis to study lung development.

Julie Ryu, MD

Dr. Ryu studies innovative methodologies including remote monitoring of asthma management and bronchoscopy as a potential tool to diagnose asthma in children.

Rakesh Bhattacharjee, MD

Dr. Bhattacharjee leads clinical research in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea and other pediatric sleep disorders.

Xin Sun, PhD

Dr. Sun studies several aspects of molecular biology of the lung from investigating how the lung is a sensory organ through pulmonary neuroendocrine cells, mechanisms of lung maturation to genetics of modeling lung disease.
