Most fellowships are 3 years long, in compliance with ACGME requirements. Ongoing evaluation is underway due to recent American Board of Pediatrics changes for fellowship classes starting in 2028.
Clinical fellows at Rady Children's Hospital benefit from exposure to the majority of children in San Diego, Imperial Counties and Southern Riverside Counties who require inpatient or outpatient care as the only free-standing Children’s Hospital in this area. This represents a catchment area of over 3 million people with exceptional ethnic and socioeconomic diversity. Rady Children’s Hospital is the largest children’s hospital in California.
Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego also serves as the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center for children, and boasts a superb Level III nursery. Fellow proficiency is also boosted by exposure to children undergoing heart, bone marrow, kidney and living-donor liver transplants.
