Research and clinical trials are a major focus of our Division and have led to the development of promising treatments. Additionally, our pediatric specialists/health professionals/pediatric allergists and pediatric immunologists have multiple roles in local and national organizations, with the goal of improving the lives of children with pediatric allergy & immunology disorders. These organizations include the Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, American Lung Foundation (through the Asthma Camp), The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, and American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders.

Along with providing expert care and treatment, our medical professionals are involved in cutting-edge research to advance the treatment of pediatric rheumatologic diseases. Our health professionals also educate future specialists by training pediatric residents at UC San Diego and Balboa Naval Medical Center, as well as adult medicine fellows from UC San Diego and Scripps Health. We also have our own Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program to train future pediatric rheumatologists.

Cutting-edge research is conducted at the Kawasaki Disease Research Center, a collaboration among Rady Children’s, the University of California, San Diego and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. The Center works with researchers throughout the United States and in Japan to advance the understanding of the mysterious disease, and how it affects children. Along with supporting clinical, laboratory, and epidemiologic investigation into the etiology, pathophysiology, and history of the disease, the Center serves to foster excellence in patient care.
