About Our Division
Our division formed through combination of groups at Rady Children's hospital and UCSD and continues to expand through building on services, programs, and goals of a solid foundation. We have grown to consist of 155 combined NICU beds with 32 Neonatologists, 50 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, 9 Fellows in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, 7 Administrative Staff Members, and 5 Clinical Research Staff Members. UCSD NICUs includes a level II NICU at Hillcrest Medical Center and a level III NICU at Jacobs Medical Center (JMC). The JMC NICU opened in 2016 with 52 private state of the art NICU beds. The level III NICU serves a largely inborn population composed of very low birth weight and extremely low birth weight infants, and also provided care to near term and term infants with disorders of transition, congenital anomalies, infections, hypoxic-ischemic injuries, and surgical support for general surgical disorders. Rady Children's NICUs provide regional support to San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties for neonates with a wide variety of medical conditions. Support is provided in multiple NICUs including a level IV referral based NICU at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, Level III NICUs at Scripps La Jolla, Rancho Springs Medical Center, and Palomar Medical Center and Level II NICUs at Pomerado, Scripps Mercy San Diego, Scripps Mercy Chula Vista, and Scripps Encinitas.
The goal of our division is to continue to be a national leader in clinical care quality and outcomes while expanding the investigative mission
