April grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering at George Mason University. She went on to complete a PhD at the University of California, San Diego under Dr. Stephanie Fraley. Her PhD work focused on developing a novel technique for detection of low concentrations of bacteria in whole blood, and this technique was tested using clinical samples from Rady Children’s Hospital.
April currently works as a postdoctoral fellow studying protective and non-protective antibody profiles in clinical samples and optimizing a murine vaccine model. In her free time, she also enjoys running, hiking, adventuring, and generally exploring San Diego county.
