Research Interests

  • Host Pathogen Interactions
  • Drug Repurposing
  • Nanoparticle Therapies

At the Bench

Daniel is a California native, receiving his B.A. in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. From there he joined the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to begin his PharmD degree, before learning about the dual-degree program. After two years of didactic pharmacy education he applied to the dual degree program and joined the Nizet lab to learn more about host-pathogen interactions and drug purposing adjacent to his pharmacy education. Currently Daniel's research focuses on Staphylococcus aureus and finding alternative therapies to modulate the host immune response and target bacterial replication and survival. Following his thesis defense he will return to pharmacy school to finish the remaining two years.

Outside of Lab

In his free time, Daniel enjoys weightlifting, golfing, playing video games and listening to EDM. He is also learning to mix music and planning the eventual launch of his DJ career.
